Merle Craig, a science teacher at Circle High School, is retiring after 21 years of teaching.

After getting bit by mosquitoes in Haiti, Craig caught Chikungunya fever it has morphed into several complicated health issues.

“I need to get some rest and get healthy,” says Craig.

Chikungunya fever is a virus that is extremely rare. Most symptoms disappear within a week but Craig’s case is more unique in that his Chikungunya fever has developed, causing more issues in his day to day life.

He has seen nearly nine doctors to figure out why it has developed the way it has and what he can do to cure it, but none of the doctors are familiar with what is going on.

Craig leaves behind a legacy of passion and humor in the classroom that made him the favorite teacher of many students.

We all hope you get better soon and we’ll miss you the next years to come.
