It’s almost that time of the year again, and I’m not talking about Christmas. I’m talking about finals. Studying is the worst. It’s hard to find time, to make time, and when you do find time it’s hard to actually want to study. There are a million things I would rather be doing then studying. Here are some study tips, and ways to stay motivated while studying.

Study Tips

1) Taking Study Breaks

When you find the time to study it’s best to take a little 5 to 10 minute break every 30 minutes while studying. These breaks make you stay motivated knowing you’ll get a small break soon. Every break you get it’s like you get to just breathe and relax. Even if it’s just for a short time.

2) Take Handwritten Notes

This has been proven to help students get better grades on test. I’ve also heard to use blue pen and that it helps you memorize what you write better.

3) Use a Study Partner

Have them look over your notes, they can point out mistakes or if you happened to get something wrong. Also do the same for them.

4) Flash Cards

This way it’s easy to quiz yourself. It helps you find out what you really know, and what you still need to focus on.

Staying Motivated

1) Know That Small Action Can Make a Difference

Studying even for just 30 minutes each night can make a huge difference on the score you get on the test.

2) Remind Yourself That This Won’t Last Forever

You don’t have to study for these test forever. Also high school is only 4 years that’s not that bad, or that many test.

3) Study in a Comfy Space

I study best when I’m in a space with no distractions (so no phone), that I’m comfy in, also surrounded by yummy snack and drinks. So I don’t have to get up and get them while studying and distract myself.

4) Picture Yourself Performing Positively

Imagine checking Powerschool and getting that amazing grade that you wanted to get on your test. On one of my math finals I got a 115% on it. Over 100% because of extra credit. It was one of the best feelings I’ve ever felt when I receive that test back.
